Custom Flamethrower

FTW! PODCAST is a weekly podcast about the current news in video games. The founder and host reached out to Super Scorcher to commission a custom Super Scorcher MK1 Not A Flamethrower replica matching their branding to unveil at their annual Winter WonderLAN party event. This project utilized multiple custom services that we offer.

Concept

When doing a custom flamethrower as specific as this project needed to be, we spoke directly with David himself and threw together a few rough renders for the size and placement of the logos, and getting the color to match the branding, as well as deciding on the nozzle and fuel tank mount colors.

In the end, it was decided to keep the black rails on the front of the barrel, and move the FTW! logo and WWL23 logos both to the rear on alternating sides.

Color

The shells for the Super Scorcher MK1 come in 6 colors, and orange is not one of them. After going over the options for how to accomplish this, such as paint or a wrap, it was decided to do a dye bath.

Starting with a white shell as a base, RIT Apricot dye was used with boiling water and soaked for two hours so the plastic shell could absorb the color. Afterwards it was dried and matched to the provided branding guidelines.

Branding

After the shell was completed, the badges were created using a 3mm thick gloss black acrylic and laser cut. A few different sizes were made before deciding on what best fit into the space on the flamethrower while making the most impact. It was decided to remove the “PODCAST” portion due to the small size making it difficult to read even at a moderately close distance.

Completion

The custom flamethrower was completed and hand delivered at the Winter WonderLAN event.
